> Pink Chocolate Girly: Holiday Paper Wreaths

Holiday Paper Wreaths

I'm usually a Simpleton when it comes to decorating for the holidays. A lit tree, a few strands of lights out side and a little here and there around the house. I think it's the mindset I had from living in a small apartment for 10 years (minimal storage for not much of anything).

I was browsing Pinterest one day not long ago and saw this picture. So pretty, right?

But... I'm cheap. I wasn't going to buy carnations or even fake ones. So I thought long and hard about what I could use and get the same look or close to it. Then I thought back to my elementary school days of making turkeys out of paper plates and tissue paper.

Tissue Paper Wreaths

For some reason, foam wreaths don't go on sale (according to the people who work at Hobby Lobby and Michaels). So I used the 40% or 50% off coupons from Michaels. The rest of the supplies are pretty cheap or you may already have them on hand.

Supplies:
  • Foam wreaths (I used 14" wreaths)
  • Red tissue paper cut into size 3"X2"
  • Scissors
  • Fast drying glue
  • Red acrylic paint (optional)
  • plastic cup with lid for glue
  • Pencil
  • Paint brush (I used a sponge one, they're cheap)
  • Paper Clips
  • Ribbon for bow or embellishments (optional)
  • Old Newspaper

1. This step is optional, but I paint the foam the same color as the tissue paper so that there is no show through incase some tissue paper areas are less dense than others.

2. Cut up the tissue paper into 3"X2" rectangles. Then one by one, wrap them around the end of a pencil. They will hold their shape and make the process of gluing go fast.

3. Pour glue in cup with lid. Once the paint is dry, start by dipping the ends of the tissue paper into the glue and attaching to wreath. I personally like doing rows. You made need to wait 15-20 minutes when gluing the paper on close together because it can push others off.

4. I personally don't think you can put too much tissue paper on the wreath. I really like the dense look.

5. To hand the wreaths, I used paper clips. With the scissors I made a thin hole in the back and bent the clip into an L shape and pushed it in until secure.

I am quite pleased with the way they turned out. I think this looks much better than looking at a naked wall.
